Suzanne Hathaway is Senior Vice President, General Counsel, Communications and Corporate Secretary at Maple Leaf Foods. Inspired by Maple Leaf Foods’ bold sustainability vision and its commitment to delivering shared value, Suzanne joined the company in 2019 and now leads a cross-functional team that supports the execution of the company’s strategic blueprint from a legal, governance and communications perspective. 

In a career that spans three decades, Suzanne has continued to weave her interest in social and environmental issues into her work. She is Chair of Maple Leaf Foods’ Diversity and Inclusion Council and sits on the Board of the Maple Leaf Centre for Food Security. Suzanne is also a member of the Independent Review Committee of Alberta Treasury Branches Investment Management, and previously served on the Board of Governors of Bow Valley College.

Before joining Maple Leaf Foods, Suzanne was a senior executive with a leading Canadian energy infrastructure company where she had broad responsibilities in areas including law, governance, sustainability, and community engagement. During this time, she was recognized as a finalist in the “Tomorrow’s Leader” category of the Canadian General Counsel Awards for her work.

Earlier in her career, Suzanne spent over 10 years in communications and government relations, working with municipal, provincial, and federal levels of government. She also authored the history book “Serving Martha and Henry: Rural Municipal Government in Alberta, 1983 – 1998”, which was published by the Alberta Association of Municipal Districts and Counties (now the Rural Municipalities Association).

Born in Lethbridge, Alberta, Suzanne studied at the University of Calgary where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, a Bachelor of Laws, and a Master of Communications Studies. She is a Member of the Law Society of Alberta and the Law Society of Ontario.
