Speaking To The Heart To Move The Mind:
How Foodborne Illness Storytelling Can Improve Food Safety Outcomes
With global concerns around COVID-19, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the in-person Symposium that was to be held on April 7, 2020, in order to prioritize the health and safety of our Stop Alliance constituents, Speakers, Government leaders, Customers, Suppliers, Alumni and Maple Leaf Foods employees. Our hope is to reschedule the Symposium later in 2020. We will be working with our partners to finalize details and will share more information about our plans in the coming weeks.
2020 Food Safety Symposium
Maple Leaf Foods will be hosting its 11th annual Food Safety Symposium on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. The theme of this year’s symposium is: “Speak to the Heart to Move the Mind: How Foodborne Illness Storytelling Can Lead to Better Food Safety Outcomes”.
Partnering with the Alliance to Stop Foodborne Illness, we have developed an agenda centered around the concept of people who have personally experienced foodborne illness in their family and are uniquely able to convey the “Why” of food safety.
We found that the compelling, and at times, heart-wrenching stories of the long-term physical and mental impact that occurs as a result of a significant illness event can be incredibly useful in engaging people in the food industry who are responsible for food safety.
From decision makers in upper management to product developers, ingredient suppliers and new employees who handle food, there is value in all stakeholders gaining a clear understanding of the impact of poor decisions or short cuts.
What is the Food Safety Symposium?
Maple Leaf Foods has a commitment to transparency and collaboration regarding food safety through sharing best practices and encouraging continuous improvement toward a collective industry of producing safe food.
In support of this objective, Maple Leaf Foods has hosted the annual Food Safety Symposium for the last 11 years. Through our symposium, we strive to provide a forum of open dialog, debate and learning about important and timely food safety topics.
