Landmark Feeds Acquires MSA Terminals in Abbotsford, B.C.

Acquisition gives Landmark first operation in British Columbia and Maple Leaf
Canada-wide presence in animal feed business

LANDMARK, MB, July 11, 2000 --- Landmark Feeds Inc. and Western Animal
Nutrition announced today they have reached an agreement for Landmark Feeds to
acquire the assets of Western Animal Nutrition's MSA Terminals in Abbotsford,
British Columbia. Details of the agreement are not being disclosed. The
transaction is expected to close August 12, 2000.

Landmark Feeds Inc., an independent operating company of Maple Leaf Foods Inc.,
operates nine facilities in western Canada.

"The addition of the Abbotsford feed mill in British Columbia provides Maple
Leaf with a truly national presence in the animal feed and nutrition business,"
said Scott McCain, President of Maple Leaf Foods Agribusiness Group. "Through
Landmark Feeds in western Canada and Shur-Gain in the east, Maple Leaf is
active in the feed business in every province."

"This is a strategically important investment for Landmark Feeds. While we have
been active in the Prairies for 40 years this is our first operation in British
Columbia," said Ron Arnason, President of Landmark Feeds. "This facility has
great potential. We look forward to investing in the operation and to working
with MSA Terminals' employees to make it the best it can be."

Western Animal Nutrition is retaining its pet food manufacturing facility and
will continue to operate in conjunction with Northwest Pet Products in
Woodland, Washington.

"Landmark Feeds is well respected in Western Canada. They are truly committed
to the future of the livestock industry and will provide our employees and
customers with tremendous opportunities," said Jack Behnken, President of
Western Animal Nutrition. "We are pleased to entrust the animal feed business
to Landmark and we will now be focusing exclusively on the pet food side of the
business."

The Abbotsford facility is a substantial structure that has never reached its
full potential. Landmark plans to invest immediately in upgrades to the
facility to improve capacity utilization and efficiency.

Effective August 12, 2000 the facility will come under the management of Bob
Dornan, Landmark Feeds' General Manager of Western Operations. Western Animal
Nutrition's employees will have the opportunity to become Landmark Feeds
employees. With the acquisition of Western Animal Nutrition's animal feed
formulas, customers will have the option of staying with the current products
or changing to a Landmark Feeds product.

"This is somewhat of a homecoming for me. I grew up on a poultry farm in the
Fraser Valley and got my start in the feed industry there," said Dornan. "The
Fraser Valley has a tremendous capacity for food production. I'm looking
forward to getting back and working with the progressive livestock and poultry
producers of the Valley once again."

Combined, Landmark Feeds and Shur-Gain form Canada's leading animal feed and
nutrition company. Both organizations conduct extensive research to develop
technically advanced feed products, economically sound nutrition management
programs and producer focused services for all sectors of livestock and poultry
production.
