Four Shur-Gain and Landmark Facilities become HACCP Certified
Certification demonstrates commitment to quality assurance and food safety
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario - Shur-Gain and Landmark Feeds announced today that four of their Canadian facilities have recently received Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) certification.
The recently certified facilities are:
- Shur-Gain St. Mary’s, Ont., swine and poultry complete feed mill
- Shur-Gain Summerside, PEI, a multi-species animal feed mill
- Landmark Feeds Strathmore, Alb., swine and poultry complete feed mill
- Landmark Nutrition Landmark, Alb., a premix facility that manufactures medication free, vitamin and trace mineral micro premixes for livestock
HACCP is a comprehensive food safety assurance program designed to manage and minimize risks during all stages of food production. With respect to Shur-Gain and Landmark Feeds, the HACCP system involves a series of control procedures at various points of the feed manufacturing process. HACCP certification for feed manufacturers is part of a broader initiative being undertaken by the Canadian livestock and poultry industry.
"This is a major achievement for Shur-Gain and Landmark, and an important accomplishment for the Canadian feed industry," says J. Scott McCain, President and Chief Operating Officer, Maple Leaf Foods Agribusiness Group. "Receiving this certification serves as formal confirmation that our long-established practices meet the world’s highest standards in quality assurance and food safety."
Seven additional facilities are scheduled to receive certification by the end of 2001.
