Diane McGarry joins Maple Leaf Foods Board of Directors

TORONTO, Dec. 19, 2005 (Canada NewsWire via COMTEX News Network) — Maple Leaf Foods (TSX:MFI) today announced that
Diane McGarry has been appointed to the Maple Leaf Foods Board of Directors,
assuming the position previously held by Jean Claude Delorme, who retired from
the Board in May 2005.

Ms. McGarry brings to this role over 30 years of experience at Xerox
Corporation in international general management, strategy, operations and
marketing. Ms. McGarry joined Xerox in 1973 as a sales representative and held
several sales, marketing and executive management positions in the United
States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. She served as Xerox Canada’s chairman,
president, and chief executive officer from 1993 to 1998 and was also
president of the North American General Markets Group and led operations
support for the Office of the President and Chief Executive Officer at Xerox.
She was also vice president for the Global TeleWeb Operations group, which
developed Xerox’s worldwide telephone contact centres. Most recently Ms.
McGarry held the position of Chief Marketing Officer, where she was
responsible for worldwide integrated marketing and communications.

Ms. McGarry graduated in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in
Business Administration from the University of Redlands and holds five
honorary doctorate degrees from five different North American universities
including the University of Redlands, in Redlands, California; The Ryerson
School of Business Management in Toronto, Ontario; St. Mary’s University in
Halifax, Nova Scotia; the University of Waterloo in Waterloo, Ontario; and
Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Indiana.

She serves on the Board of Directors of Omnova Solutions, Inc, a polymer
technology company headquartered in Fairlawn, Ohio. She is also a Trustee of
the University of Redlands in California and serves on the President’s
Advisory Council of Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana.
