Sausage and Bean Ragout with Three Cheese Tortellini

1 tbsp (15mL)
Small onion, diced
Cloves of garlic, minced
Package OLIVIERI® NutriWise® Tomato & Basil Sauce
1 2/3 cups (400mL)
Low sodum chicken broth
Can white kidney beans, drained
½ tsp (2mL)
Medium red pepper, thinly sliced
4 oz (125g)
Extra lean ground beef
Spicy Italian sausages (casing removed)
Package OLIVIERI® Three Cheese Tortellini
2 tbsp (30mL)
1/3 cup (75mL)
HEAT ½ tbsp (7 mL) oil in a large heavy pot over medium-low heat. Add diced onion and garlic. Cook for 3-5 minutes or until onions are softened.
ADD Tomato & Basil sauce, broth, beans, oregano and red pepper. Meanwhile, heat remaining oil in a separate pan on medium-high. Add ground beef and sausage. Cook for 5-7 minutes, while breaking the meat into small pieces with a wooden spoon.
REMOVE meat from pan using a slotted spoon and add to sauce. Bring the sauce to a boil and turn heat down to low. Simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
COOK pasta in a large pot of boiling salted water for 7 minutes. Drain and combine with meat and sauce mixture.
SERVE sprinkled with basil and Romano cheese.
