Committed to Leadership
Maple Leaf Foods is focused on developing leaders.
We provide our people with ongoing feedback about their performance and formalize this through our state-of-the-art performance assessment and development process which is conducted each year. This means our people get the recognition they deserve for both their accomplishments and their potential. We follow this up with well-targeted developmental activities to ensure continued growth and development.
Here are some of the ways we achieve this:
Recognizing that leadership skills need to be developed and learned through both on-the-job experience and academic development, the Company introduced the Leadership Academy. Working with the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, Maple Leaf’s Leadership Academy is a unique learning venue offering a high quality, company-specific curriculum in partnership with some of the best business and management educators in North America. Since its launch in 1999, thousands of employees have participated in our Academy programs.
Coaching and Mentoring
Maple Leaf is committed to building a coaching culture across the organization. Informal coaching takes place everyday between managers and employees, across peer groups and between senior leaders and colleagues. Formal coaching programs such as our “Leaders Coaching Leaders” program create mentoring relationships for our rising talent.
Maple Leaf has a comprehensive annual performance assessment program for all salaried employees that includes one-on-one meetings with candid conversations and feedback between manager and employee to discuss performance and set both business and personal development objectives for the coming year.
Recognition and Rewards
Maple Leaf recognizes employees who go beyond expectations. The Bravo Bonus Awards program allows employees to recognize fellow colleagues for demonstrating and living our Leadership Values. The Annual Awards program formally recognizes and celebrates outstanding individual excellence. We also recognize company loyalty and commitment through our Long Service Awards program.
Job Rotation and Advancement
Maple Leaf promotes job rotation, within and across divisions and functions, to continually grow and develop talent within the company. Employees select their career path and we strive to balance individual career interests with our business needs. For those who perform well and demonstrate the potential to take on increased responsibility, the advancement opportunities are significant and achievable.
Why do we invest all this in our people? It's simple. Our employees' success is a critical ingredient to the success of our company, and makes Maple Leaf Foods an Employer of Choice for top talent. Thousands of high performing people thriving in a high performance culture – that’s the Leadership Edge!
